About
- H.I.S. Homeschool Band is a ministry of North Point Baptist Church in Weaverville, NC that is open to homeschooled students ages 8+
- All activities are focused on bringing Praise, Honor, and Glory to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ
- The goal of H.I.S. Homeschool Band is to grow and use the talents God blesses our children with to serve others in His name (H.I.S. = Hands on Instruments Serving)
- Examples of ways performing for Him is encouraged is through outreach performances and individual and small group performances.
- Rehearsals are on Monday afternoons at North Point Baptist Church, just 10 minutes north of Asheville, NC
- Performances include an outreach performance and a concert at the end of each semester
- Mrs. Christy and Mrs. Jodie believe that having fun and rewarding hard work is key to instilling the desire and devotion needed to become the best musician a student can be
- Frequent rewards are offered throughout the semester, as well as a large reward at the end of each semester, to encourage daily practice which helps students recognize the benefits of practice
History
- The band began with seven experienced students in February 2013 when the need for a homeschool band was recognized
- Beginner band and Intermediate band were offered the next school year with a total of 29 students participating
- Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced bands were offered beginning Fall 2014
- As of Oct 2023 we have taught 187 students and of those students 25 have learned 2 instruments, 9 have learned 3 instruments, and 1 has learned 5 instruments
- Some of our students have been taught how and have presented colors in a color guard
- We have enjoyed watching the Lord grow and transform the group
